Gramma love = food

There are several things that are Lib-rituals when someone is coming to visit.
One ritual is planning food weeks in advance.
Evon, Erica, Amanda & Ridge are not due here until the 25th. Food preparation began June 1st.

"Amanda & Erica love Cheerios"

It has taken 3 tries at Wal-Mart, spanning over two weeks time to get the smallest possible box of Cheerios. Cheerios have to be there for them, but Lib won't eat them, so I hope they really do like Cheerios. Leftovers will be turned to bird food.

"Erica likes bagels & cream cheese."

Another thing that Lib doesn't eat. 3 tries at Wal-Mart, each time with her expecting to find some sort of package that only contains a couple bagels and just enough cream cheese for just a couple bagels. Of course, that stuff is just not packaged that way, so that has since been crossed off the list -- sorry Erica.
It's OK though, because most perishable items are actually bought weeks ahead of time and then placed in the freezer.
Like the hot dogs and buns that are currently in the freezer and are supposed to be Friday's dinner.
Not THIS Friday, but rather a week and a half from now.

Chicken and rice must be made also.
The smallest bag of rice is 2 lbs. Not a lot, really, but it is if you are Lib. She was pretty miffed at having to spend $0.98 on rice that she will not use up in one cooking session.
My comment of, "Well, dry rice doesn't go bad you know - it's not like you are going to have to throw away the uncooked rice when they leave....or, you can just - put it in the freezer."
Was met with the predictable "Huh?!"
(Yeah, I do that crap on purpose sometimes)
You also cannot mention Erica without mentioning mashed potatoes in the same sentence.
Mention Evon -- that's Pea Salad.

Is there some sort of genetic thing that happens to a Grandma that requires them to show love with food? They all do it.
All grand kids expect it.
It is kind of what makes the world go 'round.
I hope everyone in this family recognizes how much this gets Lib all glossy-eyed --- providing something at the table that is sprinkled full of Grandma Love.
(Even if it was in the freezer for a month before they got here)
